@anduari I ❤️ BSD, but it’s too optimistic. I’ve seen too many vendors fork a *BSD, gin it up with proprietary extensions, then never give back. They use it as merely an incubator for their own work.

"The State of ASLR on Android Lollipop: Investigating the state of ASLR on Android, how Zygote breaks it, and how we fixed it in our ROM." https://copperhead.co/blog/2015/05/11/aslr-android-zygote

.. consequence of zygote spawning model is .. shared ASLR bases across [apps] & most services.. defeats ASLR as a local security mechanism between processes of different privilege levels & severely weakens it against remote attackers. [infoleak] in one [app] gives away ASLR bases for others & bases remain constant across executions..

"Even in its amended version, this proposed directive would require that **websites with large amounts of user uploaded content** add mandatory upload filters. What this means is that websites would be required to have algorithms check **all user uploads** against a database of content and block those that are detected as infringing copyrights from appearing online."

"very concerned about potential impacts that the proposal would have on #Wikipedia, which largely addresses infringing content through community mechanisms. Such proposals put too much weight in the power of technologies for automatic content detection—be it artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning, or hash-based file identification—w/out considering the impact on human-driven models of content moderation." #article13

    1. Don’t force platforms to replace communities with algorithms
By Ed Erhart from Wikimedia Blog
As policymakers increasingly suggest technological solutions to fight illegal and controversial content online, we ask them to consider the rights of internet users and to leave room for the human side of content moderation.

I wonder how much of the development of Polaroid self-developing film was driven by the fact that people love to take pictures you definitely don't want to give to some random lab tech.
